Island of Lake Trasimeno, surrounded by 4.5 ha of parkland. The complex consists of several buildings: castle, an old mill, several houses, a church and a bell tower for a total area of 3000 sqm. The history of this important building is rich of events. In the year 1328 the Church of St. Francis was built and then the convent grew around it. The complex today is the result of renovations from 1885 to 1891 by Marquise Guglielmi who triplicated the size of the initial building, giving it a completely new look, different from the pre-existing convent.
During this radical transformation, the castle, considering its volumes more than doubled, took a so-called eclectic style, mirroring the tastes of the time, enriched with frescoes, large spaces for collections of antiquities, chinoiserie, Etruscan art, coins, weapons and armor. The castle was declared as a building of significant art-historical interest and it is under protection of the Art Cometee.
The architectural structure is presented with high fronts, from which emerge towers on a square base with narrow lancet windows, mullioned windows with pointed arches, battlements resting on corbels, the blind small windows of the ramparts. All the elements of this clear rereading that however are not reflected in the architectural style that was to celebrate, but remain simple citations, although neat and symmetrical, enhancing the optical design and the eclectic taste of the past century.
The main building, the castle itself, consists of two living floors, articulated around three courtyards, two of which are collonades and one is a large covered terrace, easily transformed into a roof garden. The builiding has a covered area of approx. 3,000 sqm and it is surrounded by six embattled towers and a central bell tower, also embattled. From the terraces of coverage, functional for more than 2,600 sqm one can admire the enchanting views over Lake Trasimeno and on its shores. Currently a restoration project is being applied in order to turn the complex into a luxury hotel, yet the property is perfect for a private residence.
The land area of approximately 4.5 ha overlooks three sides on the shores of the lake and includes two jetties and two docks to restore, and a grass tennis court. The park, like the castle, mirrors the same eclectic neo-romantic-medieval style, with olive trees, bamboo forest, old holy oak trees, while the avenues are adorned with rows of cypress trees. The footways towards the banks go through groves of pine and oak trees. The west side is entirely covered by a thick forest crisscrossed by old paths. The park is a perfect late XIX century English garden reproduction, with chinoiserie, tree architectures and exotic plants.
